I then installed the drivers in XP after the printer picked up the ports.Once again the ports (LPT2 & LPT3) appeared in device manager as PCI EPP/ECP parallel Port (LPT2) & PCI EPP/ECP parallel port (LPT3) under ports. Also PCI 4018 Multi-I/O Adapter under Multifunction adapter.All look good at this stage. However when installing the printer neither LPT2 or LPT3 are available under ports to use. Even installing using plug & play the system identifies the printer but the installation fails because the port cannot be found.

After Windows 7 installed the drivers for this device, I then unplugged it, and plugged the printer back into the PCI parallel port. I changed the printer that I installed (On the USB001 device) to the LPT3 device, and bingo. Aug 31, 2018  Parallel ports and Windows 7 I added a Parallel PCI card to my computer, and downloaded the latest drivers from the manufacturer. I still can't get any action out of my parallel= connected printer.

Can someone offer some advice here please. If you don't identify your printer then we won't know what it is. It could be important.;->Maybe the software driver for your *unidentified* printer doesn't support anything but LPT1, or the ports used for LPT2/3 are not what the driver expects. When you look at the resources used by the controller in Device Manager (devmgmt.msc), what port number is used for each controller port? Is 278 used for LPT2 and 27C for LPT3 (LPT1 uses 378 or 3BC)?
